Retro

Last night, as I was trying to fall asleep, I was channel surfing. After several seconds, I finally landed on one of the local Hindi (Indian films) movie channels. It was a throw back, an old film of Amitabh Bachchan's who was selected the Greatest start of stage or screen of the Millennium by BBC (beating out some Hollywood legends). For those who are familiar with Hindi films, it was the 1983 film Pukar. The actual scene in which Mr. Bachchan is introduced to the audience is possibly less than ten minutes into the film.
What an intro! At least to me, he comes out bashing on guys who pretty much ticked him off. It wasn't the action that caught my attention. As the fashionisto that I am, his outfit took me by surprise; it was ridiculously chic. The jacket was sort of an olive green shade and in leather. He had on these dark gray slacks, with a white shirt underneath the jacket, along with black shoes and a black belt. Top it all off, he had this silk black scarf around his neck. I had this Kool-aid smile on my face. Now, that is style. This is ridiculous! I kept repeating that to myself over and over again. This, of course, gave me an idea to share with the rest of you.
I couldn't find the leather olive green (almost military green) jacket in this year's collections. In fact, there was this green bomber jacket that was out from a few seasons ago. But we aren't doing few seasons ago, are we? I got close and more practical choice for the jacket in this shade. This is how the outfit would look in today's style. One thing that is still the same from the 80s is the fitting. There is no sagging for a well-dressed man. It is a rule that has been around for decades. Click the captions for more info.
Diesel LIMISS leather jacket
Gucci slim fit cotton shirt
Canali wool flannel trousers

B Store Mario leather lace-ups

Rag & Bone black linen scarf
Gucci classic leather belt
Note: This outfit is not made for "ass-kicking", well, at least not in the physical sense. Just something to keep in mind for the upcoming Fall or simply take this 'look' out for an evening on your day off.

Red, White, and Blue

It's almost 4th of July in the States. Glamour.com featured a few dresses in the colors of the U.S. flag because of the July 4th (Independence Day) weekend. I chose three of them which I thought was the best of the lot. Best thing about it is, they are all under $100 (USD).
This shouldn't only be restricted to women in the States. These are summer-chic dresses to wear on any weekend, anywhere in the world. Click on the images for more info.
These dresses are playful and obviously very comfortable. The idea behind these outfits is to find the right shoes to go with them and lay off the accessories. It's supposed to be fun, light, and comfortable without subtracting any points from being highly stylish.

Under My Umbrella

Remember, back in the day, during the summer it was only you and the sun? The days where (without any real responsibility) the heat would slap our necks and make us reach for that cool drink in the fridge. What about this summer? Showers. Tornadoes. Volcanoes erupting and canceled flights. We start to wonder if what we have on now will suffice for the rest of the day.
Who would have thought we'd all be dealing with summer rain? As the stylish folks we are, we always want to look our best. That goes down to even what type of umbrella we are sporting on the day. This one is about, well, umbrellas. You want to go all out and have fun doing so. Here are some stylish and quality umbrellas for you to sport next time you step out the door to welcome the bizarre strings of rain in the summer. These are style picks from MR PORTER, one of my favorite online shopping sites.
Brooks Brothers checked umbrella
Brooks Brothers foldable umbrella
Swaine Adeney Brigg golfing umbrella
Gucci compact umbrella
Swaine Adeney Brigg collapsible travel umbrella
Yes, even umbrellas can add a desirable flavor to your style.

My Favorite Gal

Without upsetting anyone I know, I have to be honest as I always am. I wanted to share with you a stunning look of a person that I love to style the most. Yes, when it comes to styling someone, she's my favorite. Shamima is a very close friend of mine from England and also a very stylish and beautiful woman.
Here's the short back-story that happened not too long ago. Shamu (as I love to call her) was having difficulties choosing a dress for an upcoming wedding she was invited to. As usual, she came to me for advice and mentioned that she had bought these fabulous heels. I'm sure you ladies can relate. You see a pair of shoes and you crazy over it until you purchase them. Now, the problem was she didn't have a dress that would go with the shoes. Unsurprisingly, she chose to buy a new dress, but of course, it was down to my decision in which dress would look best. She never lets me down in her outfits so I really don't know why she seeks my opinion. I took a look at her shoes. I understood why it was a must-buy so I suggested that she should take one of the colors of the multicolored shoes and make that color the same as the dress. It was also a better look if she chose one of the darker colors so the rest could pop-out, along with the accessories.

There are so many looks her and I have worked with and everyone of them a knock-out.

The Paris Show Pt. 4

Here we have is the wrap up of the Paris fashion week and my favorite looks of the day in menswear. The overall feel to the week has been really nice. I haven't been disappointed towards the designers I was expecting to have success in. I'm quite sure I am not a part of a few but a part of many who believe the week presented great show as it did in Milan. The final day was one hit after another, I simply love it! We start with Lanvin. Can we say, "delicious"? Let's get on with it and wrap it up:

  • Paul Smith

A good ending to Paris fashion week if you ask me. We've seen similar trends in Paris as we saw Milan. The many shades of gray and the blue hues. It's tough at times to differ the level of flamboyance in the collections between Paris and Milan. Even though I am more of a fan of the latter, this week has been delightful. A couple of the shows were so good and practical that you could pretty much pull off every look that walked down the runway. From runway to the streets, it was something very doable. Well, that is all, ladies and gentlemen. Paris fashion week has come to an end and these have been my favorite looks of the final round.
