  • The wonderful folks from Vegas.com picked up on my style blog and wondered if I would be able to share a look that would fit the occasion for a swanky place like Rose. Rabbit. Lie. at The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas. Now, with a little free time on my hand, I finally got to tinkering and place out, not one, but two looks. It's basically 20s inspired looks that would be appropriate for a place like Rose. Rabbit. Lie. and I immediately thought of my friend Sabrina - 20s fashion happens to be her favourite. I hope I do it justice with my version of a 20s inspired look.
There's plenty of inspirations to go by, like the recent magnificent costume job on The Great Gatsby, but I tried to steer slightly off track for obvious reasons. Look 1 is more on the elegant side, blurring the lines between conservative sophistication and seductive sensuality. Look 2 has more of the wild fun and youth vibe. Finally, a shout out to Jennifer who actually chose my blog in the first place. Thank you!

Look #2 is inspired by my second crush. It was my first school crush. No, it wasn't a classmate, it was a teacher. I was unfortunate to find myself in the 5th grade without my best friends; they were assigned to a different classroom next door. However, the first day of school totally made up for it. There she was, the Norwegian goddess - Idunn. The prettiest and the youngest teacher of the lot. And she was Nordic completely, stereotypical features of a girl from up north. I believe she was in her early to mid 20s boasting her teaching credentials.
Idunn (not her real name, of course) was vibrant and always eager to help her kids. It didn't take me too long to try to get on her good side. There was once this social studies trivia competition for all the fifth-graders at school. She went around, one desk after another, asking us random questions to answer. In one particular question, which fell upon me to face, caught her off guard. What I mean is she wasn't expecting me to answer the question correctly. I was a geography nut in my youth so confidence was not lacking. She asked what the capital of Norway was. I answered Oslo, to her amazement she paused. Then, she followed up with the smile and said, "I'm impressed." I had won her over that day. I wish you could see me smirk right now.

It's interesting how certain things inspire me nowadays. Take the new paint fumes at work. The entire magazine department has shifted to the newly dressed 8th floor, so we're having to deal with the undesirable dizziness.

Seems like I have been posting every other full moon. Apologies, ladies. My attention has been diverted to many other things in life, unfortunately. It's not that I haven't been inspired, I just haven't had time for my beloved blog. Just like I stated on Twitter last night, I promised a new post so here it is.
This look was inspired by the school colors of the University of Tennessee Volunteers and a certain someone. I always admired the color combo (and her curves); it's pleasing to the eyes. I've taken a favorite color of hers and added shades that compliment the rest of the outfit.

    "There's something about your body
I'm not in a rush, but girl I'm ready to marry you
Yeah, right here in the restaurant
    And start in our honeymoon
While you still got your dress on
While you still got your dress on...yeah"
Today's post is titled after the song Dress On - a bonus track on Justin Timberlake's new deluxe edition album, The 20/20 Experience. I must state, it's definitely a "3S Effect" (haven't used that term in a while) type of music album. The Timberlake & Timbaland combination is simply killer. The music is just super smooth and mature. And yes, I listen to it every time I get dressed to head out.
The lyrics made me think of how much I love putting looks together for evening events. As much as I love putting together looks for everyday life for men and women, the special occasions is what I look forward to the most. That extra effort in class and sophistication is definitely worth the while. It's sort of a natural high, an aphrodisiac for the fashion savvy - for a moda oficionado like me. The style of clothing also reminded me of one of my 3 muses, Hayley. As I have mentioned in past posts, she is who I picture in gowns and on red carpets; to me she is elegance.
The lyrics got me to think about two different looks. First, there is the signature evening dress at a formal evening event. The second is slightly toned down for a quick getaway dinner for two and to whatever follows...Wink, wink.
