  • Look #2 is inspired by my second crush. It was my first school crush. No, it wasn't a classmate, it was a teacher. I was unfortunate to find myself in the 5th grade without my best friends; they were assigned to a different classroom next door. However, the first day of school totally made up for it. There she was, the Norwegian goddess - Idunn. The prettiest and the youngest teacher of the lot. And she was Nordic completely, stereotypical features of a girl from up north. I believe she was in her early to mid 20s boasting her teaching credentials.
Idunn (not her real name, of course) was vibrant and always eager to help her kids. It didn't take me too long to try to get on her good side. There was once this social studies trivia competition for all the fifth-graders at school. She went around, one desk after another, asking us random questions to answer. In one particular question, which fell upon me to face, caught her off guard. What I mean is she wasn't expecting me to answer the question correctly. I was a geography nut in my youth so confidence was not lacking. She asked what the capital of Norway was. I answered Oslo, to her amazement she paused. Then, she followed up with the smile and said, "I'm impressed." I had won her over that day. I wish you could see me smirk right now.

There's this journal that was given to me as a gift from my very close friend Sabrina (aka the Jessica to my Harvey). It's a sophisticated, dark grey journal, with the name Istanbul imprinted on the front cover, tempting you to feel the smooth grooves on each letter. An outline of the Istanbul skyline is set in the background, as it is a promotional item from Turkish Airlines. She brought it for me after her short trip to the so called Paris of the Middle East. It may not seem much, but I think it's beautiful. It has that old world feel to it. It's been sitting in my room untouched up until now, I never knew what to write in it or if I ever would. But recently, something happened in my life. It's not life-altering but it sparked an idea; I knew what I wanted to write about in that journal. Women.
All the significant women in my life are going to be in that journal. A handwritten account of each woman I fancied, was attracted to, crushed on, infatuated with, and the ones I was foolishly in love with. Obviously, those intimate details of each account will never be disclosed. What I can share with you are each woman's characteristics that make up her style. Through each of these looks, in what I like to call the Private Collection, you will be able to imagine what each woman looked like. So this is a separate book of its own, but you can still search for each look from the Private Collection under the category of The Outfit on my page. Well, the intro is done. Let's start from the beginning: my first crush.
As a young boy, being my mother's only child, I would be dragged along to wherever she went. This meant I was always surrounded by women. My love, respect, and appreciation of God's most beautiful creation started at a very young age. It was around the 3rd grade when I first encountered my first crush. She was a family friend. Some of you who know me, know exactly who I'm talking about. Regardless, let's call her Nefertiti. This Bangali beauty was a total knockout. Her flawless fair skin, sharp features, and a welcoming warmth was second to none. I couldn't understand it at the time, but I was always drawn to her. That killer smile, my God. She was always kind to me in her playful nature, something I will never forget. When I got older, I wondered if a woman could be so perfect. A few years older than me, we never really connected like I would with other women later in life. Nonetheless, she was the first. I would like to think she was versatile and confident, so her look can be left to the imagination.

I'm sticking with yesterday's post on that challenge theme. Not really into competition unless it has something to do with sports but this is just, well, fun. Today's occasion is getting ready for a flight, with a must-have item being a chambray shirt. Keeping a few things in mind, you'll be on a plane so the look has to be comfortable. This look was also a bit inspired by the character Lena, played by Katherine Moening, on the show Ray Donovan. I love her wardrobe on that show.

My friend Sabrina has been addicted to these style challenge videos on YouTube, presented by Glamour magazine, called Dressed to Kill. The videos are of two stylists competing against each other to see who produces the best look. Easy enough right? Well, they are also given an occasion and a single item they must have in their outfit. This is where the challenge comes in.
Naturally, Sabrina - Athena aka my Jessica Pearson - asked me to throw in my look so that we can compare each other's outfit. Different individuals, different style. So I said why the hell not, sounds fun. Let's give it a go. All I have to say is, boy better bring his A-game.
    Occasion: First date.
Must have item: A gold skinny belt.

This one was sparked by a recent Instagram photo of one of my muses. She wore a flannel shirt, in what she says, after a very long time and asked if she looked good in it. My response? Well, duh, she looks good in anything. I've known this beautiful woman for a decade now, and she hasn't aged a damn bit! Blessed I would say. Whenever I think up look that would suit her, it's usually elegant - a very vintage Hollywood look. This time around, I felt I should tap into her bad ass side. You know, boots to asses, while looking pretty. Love you, gorgeous.
