Last night, as I was trying to fall asleep, I was channel surfing. After several seconds, I finally landed on one of the local Hindi (Indian films) movie channels. It was a throw back, an old film of Amitabh Bachchan's who was selected the Greatest start of stage or screen of the Millennium by BBC (beating out some Hollywood legends). For those who are familiar with Hindi films, it was the 1983 film Pukar. The actual scene in which Mr. Bachchan is introduced to the audience is possibly less than ten minutes into the film.
What an intro! At least to me, he comes out bashing on guys who pretty much ticked him off. It wasn't the action that caught my attention. As the fashionisto that I am, his outfit took me by surprise; it was ridiculously chic. The jacket was sort of an olive green shade and in leather. He had on these dark gray slacks, with a white shirt underneath the jacket, along with black shoes and a black belt. Top it all off, he had this silk black scarf around his neck. I had this Kool-aid smile on my face. Now, that is style. This is ridiculous! I kept repeating that to myself over and over again. This, of course, gave me an idea to share with the rest of you.
I couldn't find the leather olive green (almost military green) jacket in this year's collections. In fact, there was this green bomber jacket that was out from a few seasons ago. But we aren't doing few seasons ago, are we? I got close and more practical choice for the jacket in this shade. This is how the outfit would look in today's style. One thing that is still the same from the 80s is the fitting. There is no sagging for a well-dressed man. It is a rule that has been around for decades. Click the captions for more info.
